Right through the doors of the main entrance is the attendance desk, the center of Darcy Trombetta’s operations and where she often chats good-naturedly with students or stopping people as they walk by to give them a compliment. Despite the fact that being absent from school or leaving early can be stressful, Ms. Trombetta is always there with a judgement-free smile and helpful attitude.
Since becoming a member of the Wilton High School staff in 2020, Ms. Trombetta has been crucial to many student’s daily lives, taking great care to remember everyone’s name and spread kindness.
Ms. Trombetta enhances the atmosphere in Wilton High School greatly, which is why, in collaboration with The Forum, Wilton Loves has recognized her as the staff nominee for the Hidden Gems project.
When talking about her nomination, she stated that “the students are the real gems of the building and the highlight of my day!” Ms. Trombetta also affirmed that her favorite part of her job is that “no two days are ever the same in attendance, and it is always busy.” Her enthusiasm for her work shows up in her everyday interactions with students and parents alike.
Some students’ parents have shared their gratitude for Ms. Trombetta’s presence with Julie Stein emphasizing Ms. Trombetta “as a wonderful hidden gem! She personally answers every attendance email and always has personal compliments to give students and their parents at the entrance to the school. […] she gives such a bright, positive outlook to students and all who she comes in contact with.”
Additionally, one parent whose child was hospitalized, spoke about the kindness and empathy that Ms. Trombetta showed her during this troubling time. Though this time was hard for her, Selina Santos had help in the form of Ms. Trombetta: “She let the nurses and his team know that I was not in the mindset of contacting them. (She had to manage) over 30 emails back and forth with absences and communication, including when he had to miss days for doctors’ appointments after his return. She is an unsung hero in my opinion, not just a name in an email you send info to, but someone who truly cares.”
So don’t fret if you are absent, whether it be because of a vacation or a more serious matter; Ms. Trombetta is sure to assist you and make you smile in the meantime. Truly deserving of her nomination, Ms. Trombetta is a vital member of the WHS community and is praised by her community as a lovely and thoughtful staff member.
